Dungtshe Lhakhang

Dungtshe Lhakhang

The name has been derived from the Trumpet that is the musical instrument for religion.

Dungtshe, the name has been derived from the Hemlock Tree.

The temple is founded by Drupthob Thangthong Gyalpo in 1433 (Drupthob is invited by App Chhundu from Haa and Jow Drakey from Paro. He is invited mainly to cure the disease call Leprosy in Jangsa Valley.) Drupthob Thangthong Gyalpo built the temple in front of the evil Tortoise to subdue the evil force.

Then the work has been continued by his son Dewa Zangpo with his 6 disciples (Lam Rii, Lam Nangpa, Lam Choegay Drakpa, Lam Kuenzangpa, Lam Nima and Lam Choegay.)

In 1833, 25th Je Khenpo Sherab Gyaltshen with 12 strong men from Paro built the outer part (12 men each of them they used to eat the food for 100 men but one lady had only served the food for 99 men to one strong man so, he couldn’t erect the pillar straight where we can see one of the pillar is little bended) Restored by Her Majesty the Royal grandmother Kezang Choeden Wangchuk from 2017-2019.
